EVENDALE COUNCIL RECREATION, FIRE AND POLICE COMMITTEE MEETING
January 13th, 2015 at 5:00 p.m.
Present were Council members, Bill Puthoff, John Ranz, Jeff Albrinck, Police Chief Neil Korte, Fire Chief Mike Hauck, and Recreation Director David Nichols. Also in attendance were Chief Financial Officer, Cynthia Caracci, and Assistant to the Mayor; David Elmer.
IT Discussion
• The committee met with Randan Shaw, current IT Specialist for the village regarding expanding his role with the village. Police Chief Korte shared with the committee that anyone working with a police computer must go through an extensive security check and expressed a strong preference that we minimize the number of IT Specialists that may have to work on the Police and Fire computer systems. This requirement addresses some of the concerns regarding potential benefits of having a larger company serve as the IT Specialist.
Recreation
• Mr. Nichols reported that the indoor spa is structurally sound and now operating.
• The January agenda currently has a second reading on the SwimSafe contract. Mr. Nichols requested that council pass this ordinance as an Emergency, due to the timing and need to prepare for summer hiring.
• Snow Much Fun will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. Ground fireworks will also be provided starting at approximately 8:30.
Police
• The Police Department had nothing to report.
Fire Department
• Fire Dept. Chief Hauck reported that a medical retirement necessitates a hiring and there will be some overlap as it is currently unknown when the medical retirement will occur.
Other
• Jennifer Eismeier from the Mill Creek Watershed District presented to council their proposed improvements to the Mill Creek at Evendale Commons. The conceptual drawings suggest that they would re-grade the areas of the Mill Creek between PG Graves and the Cunningham Dr. bridge. That would provide for a more concentrated water flow and a more stable and graded area around the water, enhancing opportunities for future activity . Ms. Eismeier is working on a grant that would fund approximately 75% of the project requiring the village to contribute approximately $70,000. The village contribution can be made with services or other in-kind contributions as well as the cash contribution to the project.
There being nothing further to discuss and upon a Motion by Councilman, Bill Puthoff, seconded by Mr. Ranz, the meeting adjourned at 6:05.
